Waxing Hygiene: What to Look Out For in Your Salon

Waxing is one of our most popular beauty treatments — and for good reason. It leaves your skin smooth, hair-free, and feeling fresh. But for all its benefits, it’s really important that your waxing treatment is done in a clean and hygienic way.
When waxing isn’t done properly, it can lead to things like skin irritation, ingrown hairs, bruising or even infection. That’s why good hygiene should never be skipped — and why I’m proud to say that at Honeys, we follow strict hygiene standards for every single client.
If you're not sure what to expect, here are some helpful signs to look out for when visiting any salon for waxing.
✅ Waxing Hygiene: What Your Therapist Should Be Doing
- Washing their hands or using hand sanitiser before and after your treatment
- Using a fresh spatula every time wax is applied (this is to avoid “double-dipping”)
- Wearing gloves during intimate waxing or when needed for extra hygiene
- Cleaning the wax area before starting to remove any oils, creams or bacteria
- Stretching the skin during removal to avoid bruising, especially in delicate areas
- Using professional wax products that suit your skin type and the area being treated
- Applying a soothing lotion afterwards to calm the skin and reduce redness
- Keeping the treatment bed and surroundings clean and free from product build-up
❌ What Your Therapist Shouldn’t Be Doing
- Dipping the same spatula into the wax pot more than once
- Reusing strips, gloves or towels from another client
- Using products without checking for allergies or sensitivities
- Leaving wax residue or not cleaning the skin properly before or after
- Handling phones or other objects during your treatment without washing hands again
- Skipping aftercare advice — this is important for preventing ingrown hairs and irritation
Don't Be Afraid to Ask
A professional beauty therapist will never mind if you ask questions about hygiene. In fact, we welcome it. If you are ever unsure about how something is being done, just ask. You deserve to feel safe, clean, and confident during your treatment.
At Honeys, we are trained not just in waxing techniques but also in best hygiene practices — because we care about your skin and your peace of mind.
Waxing should be a positive experience. When done professionally and hygienically, it gives smooth results that last and helps you feel your best. But it all starts with cleanliness and care.
So next time you book a wax, take a moment to check your surroundings, observe your therapist, and ask questions if needed. Your skin will thank you for it.
